WeDo Business Finance has expanded its invoice finance offering to eligible Scottish-registered businesses, completing its first facility with £750,000 of funding for a specialist marine and renewable energy consultancy.

The expansion means WeDo can now provide invoice finance support to more businesses across Scotland, following work behind the scenes to adapt its legal documentation and processes for the Scottish market.

The first facility has been put in place for a specialist UK-based consultancy working across the marine and renewable energy sector. The business supports offshore wind projects, with expertise including subsea cable installations and project crewing.

The £750,000 invoice finance facility will provide greater access to working capital as the company delivers projects and pursues new opportunities, rather than having to wait for customer invoices to be settled.

Expanding invoice finance into Scotland

Scotland has its own legal framework around business security and the transfer, or assignation, of receivables, which differs from the framework used in England and Wales.

This means providing invoice finance to Scottish-registered companies requires different legal documentation and processes. WeDo has now put the appropriate framework in place, enabling our Invoice Finance team to support eligible businesses registered in Scotland.

Scotland’s rules around moveable transactions have also undergone significant modernisation in recent years, with the Moveable Transactions (Scotland) Act 2023 introducing the Register of Assignations – a new route for transferring claims such as customer invoices.

For WeDo, completing the first facility marks another step in widening the businesses our team can support and developing our invoice finance offering across the UK.

Supporting growth in marine and renewable energy

The first Scottish facility also brings WeDo into a particularly interesting area of the UK economy.

The client provides specialist consultancy and crewing support to offshore wind projects, including work connected with subsea cable installations.

Businesses delivering large and complex projects can face significant working capital requirements. Staff, contractors and other project costs often need to be covered while invoices remain outstanding, making reliable access to cashflow particularly important.

Invoice finance allows eligible businesses to release cash tied up in unpaid invoices sooner. WeDo can provide up to 90% of an eligible invoice within 24 hours, helping businesses bridge the gap between completing work and receiving payment.
